MotoStats / Privacy

Privacy, kept simple.

Your rides belong to you. MotoStats keeps them on your iPhone. There is no account, no server, no advertising and no tracking.

Summary

Who we are

MotoStats is made by Dan Bond (“danb0nd”, “we”, “us”), an individual developer in Queensland, Australia. Contact: hello@danb0nd.com.

Because your ride data is stored and processed only on your own device, we do not hold it and cannot see, access, sell or share it.

What the app stores on your iPhone

This data stays in the app’s private storage on your device and is kept until you delete it. It may be included in your iCloud or computer backups of your iPhone, according to your own backup settings; those backups are handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy.

Location and motion

With your permission, the app uses location to record speed, distance and route while you record a ride, including with the screen locked (iOS shows the location indicator while it does). Motion sensors measure lean angle, acceleration and vibration. Outside of recording, they are used only to show live readings while the app is open, and stop when you leave the app. You can change location and motion permissions at any time in iPhone Settings.

Maps

Ride maps are drawn with Apple Maps (MapKit). Apple may receive the map area being shown in order to deliver map tiles, under Apple’s privacy policy. We do not receive this.

Photos

If you allow it, the app reads photos taken during a ride, on your device, to show them on that ride’s map. Photos are never copied, uploaded or changed. You can turn off access at any time in iPhone Settings.

Sharing and exports

When you choose to export or share a ride, the iOS share sheet sends only the files you select (GPX route or CSV data) to the destination you choose. That destination’s privacy practices then apply. Exported files can include precise location, so share them with care.

Diagnostics

The app contains no analytics. If you have chosen in iPhone Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may provide us with anonymous crash reports and usage statistics, which we use only to fix problems. You control this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

What we don’t do

We do not sell or share personal information, use it for advertising, track you across apps or websites, build profiles, or make automated decisions about you. The app does not use Apple’s advertising identifier.

Deleting your data

Delete a single ride by swiping left on it in the Rides list. Delete everything (rides, saved tracks, bikes and calibration) with Settings → Privacy → Delete All Data. Deleting the app also removes all of its data from your device. Removing data from your own backups is controlled by you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the EU and UK GDPR, the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and US state privacy laws (including California’s CCPA/CPRA) give you rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the use of your personal information, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. Because your data stays on your device, you can exercise most of these directly in the app: view and edit rides, export them as GPX or CSV, and delete any or all data.

For anything else, email hello@danb0nd.com. We will respond within one month (or sooner where the law requires) and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority, for example the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) or your EU supervisory authority.

Children

MotoStats is intended for people who ride motorcycles and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children; the app does not send ride data to us at all.

Security

Your data is protected by your iPhone’s built-in security, including data protection when your device is locked with a passcode. The app has no servers or accounts of its own, so there is no copy of your data held elsewhere for us to protect or lose.

This website

These MotoStats pages do not use cookies, analytics or tracking and do not ask you for personal information. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes connection information such as IP addresses as needed to deliver and protect the pages, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Changes

If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and the date below before the change takes effect. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
